To compile monograph on the McDowell family
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
William B. McDowell, oldest living member of the clan,
Here on a Visit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Compilation of a monograph on the history of the McDowell family during the Revolutionary war has been undertaken by William B. McDowell, of Cambridge Mass., who, with his wife, came to Lexington yesterday for a short visit to his cousin, Miss Magdalene McDowell, of "Ashland."

Mr. McDowell and his wife are taking the trip also in celebration of their silver wedding anniversary.  His wife was formerly Miss. Fuller.

The McDowell clan was implanted in the United States in 1735 when 600 of the family on a ship of their own came to this country.  At the present date there are 30,000 descendants of the original 600 persons scattered through the United States and Canada.  Governor McDowell of Tennessee has been elected patriarch of the clan.  Mr. William McDowell is the oldest living member of the clan.

As a son of General Irvin McDowell, a commander in the battle of Bull Run, Mr. McDowell is a Northerner by birth but a "Southerner" in heart" he said.  Mr. McDowell came to Lexington from Staunton, VA., where the McDowell family owned a 100,000 acre tract in Augusta County during revolutionary times.  On leaving Lexington Mr. McDowell will return to Staunton to gather data for the monograph.
