Buford, Joseph "Joe"
Joseph Leon Buford, 80, the youngest son of Joseph Luck and Mary Hinch Buford was born in Alder Gulch, Montana, on September 26, 1913 and was pronounced dead on October 13, 1993, at his home.
Joe came to Missouri as a youngster and was raised by Aunt Nannie Buford after the death of his mother. He graduated from Price Rural School and Gorin High School. He received his B. S. degree from Northeast Missouri State University, in 1950.
Joe taught in the area schools, retiring in 1975. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was active in community affairs and was affiliated with the Harmony Grove Baptist Church.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Eva Thrailkill and three brothers: Carson, Clifford and Donald.
He is survived by four nieces: Ella Mae Jones of Quincy, Illinois, Donna Lee Parrish of Palmyra, Missouri., Nancy Simmons of Center, Missouri, and Anna Meyer of Belleville, Illinois and two Nephews: Elven W. Buford of Edwardsville, Illinois and Lester J. Buford of East Alton, Illinois.
Funeral services were held at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis, Missouri, on October 16, 1993 with the Reverend James L. Campbell officiating. Soloist was Elaine Forrester, accompanied by pianist Eilene Findley, Pallbearers were Ronnie Boyer, Lanny Clatt, Kenny Clatt, Bob Franklin, Leon Shaw, and Keith Boyer. Honorary bearers were Danny Aldridge, Walt Marlow, Jim Sears and Rick Fischer. Interment was in the Harmony Grove Baptist Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Joe Buford Scholarship Fund.
